Cellular Biology

Fluxion's BioFlux System manages a wide variety of applications in cellular biology, from high content analysis to pharmacological screening. Each microfluidic channel serves as an adaptable experimental chamber ready to be used for physiologically-relevant shear flow assays. BioFlux enables in vivo relevance for your cellular biology experiments in a convenient, high throughput and low volume well-plate format.

Representative Examples of Cellular Biology Experiments Using BioFlux

Mononuclear cell and endothelial cell interactions

Multi-channel fluorescence imaging in the BioFlux system. HuVEC and PBMC cells stained with anti-a-tubulin (green), WGA (red) and Hoescht 33342 (blue).

Photometrics CoolSnap HQ2 camera, Nikon TE2000, 60X TIRF oil immersion objective (captured at the Nikon Imaging Center, UCSF).
Differentiation and neurite outgrowth

PC12 cells grown under shear prior to application of NGF in the BioFlux channels. Fixed cells were stained with phalloidin (gray) and Hoescht 33342 (blue).

Imaged with a Nikon Eclipse TS100 microscope and QImaging Camera.
Platelet Adhesion

Whole human blood washed with PBS in the BioFlux microfluidic channels after shear-initiated platelet adhesion to collagen I.

Imaged with a Nikon Eclipse TS100 microscope and QImaging Camera.
Stem Cells

Mesenchymal Stem Cells grown on fibronectin destined for flow based differentiation.Cells were fixed and stained with WGA (green) and Hoescht 33342 (blue).

Imaged with a Nikon Eclipse TS100 microscope and QImaging Camera.
