Kenneth Kelley
Chairman
Ken has more than 25 years experience in building and managing life science companies with extensive experience in life science instrumentation. As a venture capitalist, Ken led investments in ForteBio, Cell Biosciences, and Solus Biosystems. He currently serves as Chairman of Solus and is a Director for EndoNav, Halozyme, and MPEX. Ken was the founder, Chairman, and CEO of IntraBiotics Pharmaceuticals, a biotechnology company focused on novel antibiotics. At IntraBiotics, he raised over $200M in financing through multiple rounds of private financing and subsequent IPO, built a team of over 150 employees, and advanced the company's lead product through Phase III clinical trials. Ken now serves as mentor and adviser to emerging-growth life science companies. Ken received his MBA from Stanford University Graduate School of Business and his BA in Biochemical Sciences with Phi Beta Kappa honors from Harvard University.
Elaine Heron, Ph.D.
Director
Dr. Heron is a veteran of the biotech tools industry and is currently CEO and Chair of Amplyx Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a development stage therapeutics company. She was previously CEO of Labcyte Inc., an innovator in small volume liquid handling for life science research. Prior to that she was the General Manager of the molecular biology division of Applied Biosystems (NYSE:ABI) and a Corporate VP of Applera, the parent company of Applied Biosystems. This division was responsible for all DNA products including sequencers, PCR, arrays, forensics, and diagnostics. Prior to serving as General Manager, she was responsible for worldwide sales, service, and support. Dr. Heron was also the VP of Marketing for Affymetrix and a founder of Molecular Dynamics which is now a division of GE Healthcare. She currently serves as a Director for BioMarin Pharmaceutical (NASDAQ:BMRN), Labcyte Inc. and Amplyx Pharmaceuticals. Dr. Heron received her Ph.D. and BS in Chemistry from Purdue University.
Jeff Jensen
Chief Executive Officer
Jeff has more than 20 years experience in the bioscience and industrial sectors. He most recently served as President and CEO of Eksigent Technologies, a leading developer of microfluidic platforms for bioanalytical and medical device applications. He was responsible for signing major partnerships and distribution deals with companies such as Applied Biosystems and J&J. Prior to Eksigent, Jeff was COO of Mobius Technologies and held management positions at Raychem and Pall Corporation. Jeff received his BS from Cornell University in Chemical Engineering and completed the Program for Management Development at Harvard Business School.
John Steuart
Director
John has spent the last 20 years managing, building and investing in technology and life science companies. John focuses on the intersection of the information technology and life sciences markets including bioinformatics, molecular diagnostics, genomics, proteomics, software and instrumentation for med-tech industries. John serves on the board of directors of Arcxis, Tibion, Fluxion, Gene Security Network & Wired Benefits. He is an Industry Fellow at the Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology at the College of Engineering as well as a member of the Advisory Council to the Lester Center's Berkeley Entrepreneurs’ Forum at UC Berkeley. He recently joined the Advisory Board for Technology Ventures Corporation (TVC), an organization which fosters entrepreneurs and technologies coming out of the national labs such as Lawrence Berkeley, Sandia and Lawrence Livermore. Early in his career, he joined Alafi Capital, an Emeryville-based venture firm specializing in early-stage biomedical companies, where he served as an officer of the General Partner. At Alafi, John lead investments in more than a dozen successful start-ups, and served as the senior executive and board member of various firms such as Tanox, Software Ventures, Lipomatrix, and Megan Health. In the mid-90s, together with colleague Nat Goldhaber, John helped start Cybergold, an Internet marketing and payments company, serving as the early COO and CFO through its IPO, merger with Mypoints and sale to United Airlines. John continued with the Mypoints unit of United serving as the Senior Vice President of Strategic Partnerships.
Andrey Zarur, Ph.D.
Director
Andrey Zarur, Ph.D., brings more than 15 years of operating and investing experience to Kodiak. Most recently, he founded, and served as CEO for, BioProcessors, a provider of high-throughput solutions for the biopharmaceutical industry. During his tenure, the company raised more than $40M in venture capital and closed significant deals with several of the world's most prominent biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies. As a General Partner at Kodiak, he focuses on the intersection of healthcare and IT. He also sits on the boards of Kodiak companies Cambridge Devices, Fluxion, and K-Motion Interactive. Prior to founding BioProcessors in 2001, Andrey served in a number of key positions in the technology industry. Some of these included operational executive and investor or board member for start-up companies involved in bioinformatics, genomics, medical devices, nanotechnology-derived materials and energy systems including Starlab N/V, GDI and StarSoft. Andrey is the recipient of several prestigious academic and management awards including the 75th Anniversary Materials Research Society Award. He has authored numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals including Nature, Science and Langmuir, and holds more than 100 issued and pending patents for products ranging from nanotechnology derived catalysts for environmental remediation to devices for drug development and alternative fuels. In addition to being on the Boards of Directors of BioProcessors and Cambridge Devices, he serves on the Scientific Advisory Boards of Anecova and StemLife, and is on the board of Infantia, a foundation dedicated to providing education and services for underprivileged children in developing countries. In addition, Andrey is a Young Global Leader and member of the Climate Change Taskforce of the World Economic Forum. Andrey holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the National University of Mexico. He also holds an M.S. and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from MIT and is a Senior Lecturer at the Institute's Sloan School of Management.
