Fluxion Biosciences Initiates Early Access Program
for the IonFux Automated Electrophysiology System

System provides automated solution for performing ion channel assays in drug discovery and development

San Francisco, CA, April 20, 2006 - Fluxion Biosciences today announced the initiation of early access sales of its IonFlux platform, which provides automated cellular electrophysiology assays for drug discovery and development. The system automates the slow and skill-sensitive “patch clamp” assay that is the benchmark assay for ion channel research.

The IonFlux system utilizes a unique microfluidic design to provide automated cell manipulation, trapping, sealing, whole-cell formation, and precise e-field application. The IonFlux system delivers outstanding patch clamp performance in a complete, easy-to-use system. In addition, it offers significant advantages in throughput, compound application, and imaging capabilities. The early access system includes the IonFlux instrument as well as IonPlate consumables. The system integrates easily with existing manual patch clamp workflows. Additionally, the IonFlux system is suitable for performing single-cell electroporation assays.

According to Andrew Blatz, Ph.D., Director of Marketing Applications, “The IonFlux early access program has been initiated after strong initial feedback from trial users. We have maintained close contact with users during the system’s development to ensure it meets their needs. Based on the IonFlux System’s dramatic performance benefits, these users are eager to include IonFlux in their hERG toxicity and ion channel drug discovery programs.” Early access IonFlux systems are available immediately.
