Fluxion Biosciences Initiates Early Access Program
for the BioFlux Shear Force Assay System

System provides automated, precise control of shear for studying biofilms and cellular adhesion

San Francisco, CA, December 1, 2006 - Fluxion Biosciences today announced the initiation of early access sales of its BioFlux platform, which provides automated shear force assays for cellular adhesion and biofilm research. The system is utilized in study of immune disorders, anti-biotics development, inflammatory diseases, and cystic fibrosis research, among others.

The BioFlux system is a complete, easy-to-use solution for studying cells and biofilms under shear. The system includes an instrument with software control and replaceable, sterile multi-well plates (BioPlates) that contain all fluidics. All reagents, including media, inoculant, and test compounds, are pre-loaded in the wells for long-term unattended operation.  Fluxion’s pneumatic fluid control design eliminates the need for cumbersome fluid-filled tubing. Precise shear rates are maintained by the system’s advanced electronic pressure control system, and temperature control of the fluidics is included. Each BioPlate is constructed with a cover-slip glass bottom to ensure optimal microscopic image quality.

According to Mike Schwartz, Director of Operations and Business Development, “The BioFlux early access program has been initiated after strong initial feedback from trial users. BioFlux fills a real need in controlled shear assays, and users are anxious to take advantage of the system’s unique capabilities in performance and ease of use.” Early access BioFlux systems are available immediately.
